Bouldering Project Session

A bouldering project session hones one hard line with many attempts and long rests—high finger strain despite low problem count.

A bouldering project session focuses on one or two hard problems near your limit grade with many attempts, long rests, and rehearsed beta instead of mileage. Volume is low in problem count but high in finger strain, skin wear, and mental fatigue from repeated failures.

Cap attempts when form crumbles, landings get sloppy, or pulley twinges appear on crimp loads. Pair with easy movement or antagonist work the next day rather than another limit board.

Common questions

  • How many attempts per project session?

Often six to twelve quality tries with three to five minutes rest. Stop when skin tears, pulley pain, or sloppy landings rise—more tries rarely help.
