Concentric-Only Training
Concentric-only training skips heavy lowering phases—sled pushes, step-ups—to train with less soreness during injury or recovery weeks.
Concentric-only training avoids heavy eccentric loading—sled pushes, step-ups, or machines that eliminate lowering stress—useful when DOMS or injury limits lengthening phases. It maintains conditioning and some strength with less muscle damage than full reps.
Not a long-term replacement for full-range lifting when healthy.
Common questions
-
When is concentric-only training useful?
During tendon pain, post-competition soreness, or deload weeks when eccentrics would delay recovery. Resume full reps when pain-free.
