Ankle Mobility

Ankle mobility, especially dorsiflexion, affects squat depth, landing mechanics, and gait. Limited range often shifts stress to knees and calves.

Ankle mobility is chiefly dorsiflexion—shin over foot—with control in squats, lunges, and downhill running. A knee-to-wall test flags restrictions; banded distractions and calf flexibility work help when combined with strength.

High-top shoes and prior sprains can limit range silently.

Common questions

  • Can ankle mobility fix knee pain?

Sometimes—when poor dorsiflexion forces knee valgus in squats. Pair mobility with hip and foot strength; not every knee issue is ankle-driven.
