Double-Under Conditioning
Double-under conditioning uses two rope turns per jump for metcon speed—progress from single unders with capped sets to protect shins and wrists.
Double-under conditioning passes the jump rope twice per bounce—wrists spin fast while the body stays tall with small bound rebounds. It trains timing, calf stiffness, and coordination for short explosive intervals inside longer metcons.
Build with single unders, then sets of five to twenty unbroken before chasing hundred-rep blocks. Wrong rope length and concrete floors raise shin and forearm fatigue.
Common questions
-
Why do double unders whip the calves?
Stiff landings and high rep volume load calves and soles. Short practice sets, proper rope height, and softer surfaces beat grinding hundreds on concrete when form breaks.
