Flexibility vs Mobility

Flexibility is passive range of motion; mobility is active control through that range. Training needs both—mobility drills before lifts, targeted stretching after.

Flexibility vs mobility distinguishes passive range of motion (flexibility) from active control through that range (mobility). Long static stretches may increase flexibility without improving squat depth if stability is missing.

Mobility drills combine end-range loading, CARs, and dynamic prep before training.

Common questions

  • Should you stretch before lifting?

Use dynamic mobility and ramp-up sets before heavy work; save long static stretches for after training or separate recovery sessions unless sport-specific needs differ.

  • Can you be flexible but not mobile?

Yes—passive splits do not guarantee stable deep squats. Add controlled articular rotations, loaded end-range work, and strength in lengthened positions.
