Pilates Roll-Up
The Pilates roll-up is a controlled sit-up through spinal flexion—building segmental strength without hip-flexor momentum or neck yanking.
The Pilates roll-up moves from supine to seated through slow spinal flexion—arms reaching forward, powerhouse engaged, no momentum jerk from the hip flexors alone. Strap assistance on reformer or bent knees on mat scale difficulty until you can roll without tucking the chin aggressively.
It pairs with the hundred and teaser progressions in classical order. Stop if disc symptoms flare.
Common questions
-
What if you cannot complete a full roll-up?
Use bent knees, a mini ball behind thighs, or reformer straps until segmental control improves. Forcing the move with hip snap teaches little and strains the neck.
