Anabolic Resistance

Anabolic resistance means muscles respond less to protein and training—higher per-meal protein and resistance work help, especially with age or inactivity.

Anabolic resistance is blunted muscle protein synthesis response to protein and training—common in older adults and after inactivity. Higher per-meal protein (30–40 g), resistance training, and leucine-rich foods help overcome it.

Spread protein across the day rather than one small dinner.

Common questions

  • Can young lifters have anabolic resistance?

Usually less than older adults, but inactivity, low protein, or illness can blunt response. Fix daily protein and training before exotic supplements.
