Casein Before Bed

Casein before bed provides slow protein overnight for muscle repair—optional when daily protein is adequate, useful when evening intake is low.

Casein before bed is slow-digesting protein—dairy or supplements—taken near sleep to support overnight muscle protein synthesis in trained people. Thirty to forty grams from Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, or casein powder is a common research range.

It is optional if daily protein is already high.

Common questions

  • Does casein before bed hurt sleep?

Most people tolerate dairy fine; avoid large late meals if reflux is an issue. A modest protein snack one to two hours before bed is a practical test.
