Drag Factor Rowing
Drag factor rowing is the flywheel resistance measure that makes erg splits comparable. It differs from damper setting and should stay consistent across sessions.
Drag factor rowing is the flywheel deceleration measure on Concept2 ergs—typically one hundred ten to one hundred forty for adults—not the damper lever number on the side. Consistent drag factor makes split times comparable week to week; max damper does not equal max fitness.
Test drag after warming the flywheel with ten hard strokes.
Common questions
-
What drag factor should I use?
Many rowers land near one hundred ten to one hundred thirty; choose a setting you can repeat and adjust training by split and watts, not by chasing max drag.
-
Is higher drag factor better?
Higher drag slows the flywheel faster and can feel heavier, but it does not automatically build more fitness—technique and program design matter more.
