Plant Milk Calcium Fortification

Fortified plant milks can match dairy calcium per cup—verify milligrams on the label and pair with vitamin D and protein.

Plant milk calcium fortification adds tricalcium phosphate or calcium carbonate so one cup can approach dairy levels—often two hundred to four hundred fifty milligrams per serving when well formulated. Absorption still needs vitamin D and adequate protein for bone remodeling.

Unfortified almond or oat may offer almost none. Shake cartons; calcium can settle.

Common questions

  • Is fortified plant milk calcium absorbed well?

Fortified calcium in milks is generally bioavailable when vitamin D status is adequate—still diversify with tofu set with calcium, fish with bones, or dairy if tolerated.
