Post-Exercise Cooldown

Post-exercise cooldown uses easy movement after hard sessions to lower heart rate gradually and reduce dizziness—paired with sleep and nutrition for full recovery.

Post-exercise cooldown is five to fifteen minutes of easy movement—walk, spin down, light mobility—after hard sessions to gradually lower heart rate and redistribute blood flow. It may reduce dizziness when stopping abruptly from intense work.

Static stretching can follow but is optional. Cooldowns do not erase need for sleep and fuel.

Common questions

  • Is cooldown required after every workout?

Most valuable after hard cardio or intervals; short walks after lifting help too. Easy-only days may need only a minute or two of loosening.

  • Does cooldown prevent DOMS?

Evidence for soreness prevention is weak; cooldown mainly aids cardiovascular transition and habit closure. Sleep, protein, and load management matter more for DOMS.
