Tempo Bodyweight Squat Block
A tempo bodyweight squat block uses slow lowering counts to build leg control and time under tension before adding external load at home.
A tempo bodyweight squat block uses a counted lowering phase—often three to four seconds down, brief pause, and one-second up—to build leg control without plates. Keep heels down, knees tracking over mid-foot, and stop sets when depth or speed breaks.
Run blocks for two to three weeks, then return to normal cadence or add a backpack load. Tempo work raises time under tension and soreness; slot it early in the week.
Common questions
-
How slow should the lowering phase be?
Three to four seconds down with a one-second pause at the bottom is a common strength block. If you collapse on rep four, shorten the count before adding load.
